About the Department

Founded in 1984 within Marmara University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, the Department of Political Science and International Relations is one of the oldest and main departments in this field in our country in terms of the level of undergraduate and graduate education it provides. Our department, which is one of the most preferred departments among similar departments of public universities in Turkey, has started to provide education within the Faculty of Political Sciences since 2012.

Our department provides undergraduate education in the disciplines of Political Science and International Relations and, graduate and PhD education in the discipline of International Relations. Our course program is supported by our full-time faculty and staff, as well as many members and experts from other departments and institutions. The language of instruction is English in Undergraduate and Master's Programs and Turkish in Doctoral Programs. We currently have over 500 students studying in our Undergraduate, Master's and Doctoral Programs.

Our department aims to provide its students with the necessary theoretical and analytical knowledge with an interdisciplinary approach, not only in terms of career expectations, but also in order to understand the dynamics of the rapidly changing world and produce appropriate solutions. For this reason, many courses, from Economics, Law, Statistics and Local Governments to Turkish Political Life and International Organizations, are offered to our students in a wide range by our faculty members with different academic background and research areas. Our department, which is actively involved in the European Union's Erasmus student and faculty exchange program, currently has agreements with more than 30 European universities and this number is increasing day by day. There is also oppurtinites for international mobility without any grant, thanks to bilateral agreements our university established with many universities from the U.S.A., Russia,m South Korea, Japan and many others.

The prestige that our department has gained in its field can be understood from the fact that our graduates are primarily employed in various fields of the public and private sectors. Some of our graduates are currently working in the ministries and public institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A significant portion of them are generally employed as managers in private companies in Turkey and abroad, in areas such as banking, finance, sales, marketing and insurance. Furthermore, we also have graduates working in local and foreign non-governmental organizations and international organizations. In addition, many of our graduates continue their academic careers, mainly in the fields of political science, international relations and public administration, following their master's and doctoral education at home and abroad.
